In May, orange X's appeared on the trees along our road. We asked the Road Commission what they meant, and that is how we found out that 8,000 trees across the county were slated to come down. We had never been to a county meeting in our lives.
We’ve spent the months since reading the Road Commission’s documents, going to its meetings, and knocking on our neighbors’ doors.
We are not an organization. Nobody here is paid. No group from outside Kalamazoo County funds us or tells us what to say.
What we don’t know: we’re not arborists, engineers, or lawyers. Where this site states something technical, it comes from a document we’ve linked or a person we’ve named. Where we don’t know something, we say so — and there are several places on this site where we do.
Who else is in this
Allies do not have to adopt this campaign’s language to help. Every page of this site is independently linkable and shareable — an organization that will circulate the meeting details but not the rest of it should be able to link the September 8 page on its own.
